425 When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

1      When I survey the wondrous cross
    On which the Prince of Glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss
    And pour contempt on all my pride.

2      Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast
    Save in the death of Christ, my God;
All the vain things that charm me most,
    I sacrifice them to His blood.

3      See, from His head, His hands, His feet
    Sorrow and love flow mingled down!
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet
    Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

4      Were the whole realm of nature mine,
    That were a tribute far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
    Demands my soul, my life, my all!

450 O Sacred Head, Now Wounded

1      O sacred Head, now wounded,
    With grief and shame weighed down,
Now scornfully surrounded
    With thorns, Thine only crown.
O sacred Head, what glory,
    What bliss, till now was Thine!
Yet, though despised and gory,
    I joy to call Thee mine.

2      How pale Thou art with anguish,
    With sore abuse and scorn!
How doth Thy face now languish
    That once was bright as morn!
Grim death, with cruel rigor,
    Hath robbed Thee of Thy life;
Thus Thou hast lost Thy vigor,
    Thy strength, in this sad strife.

3      What Thou, my Lord, hast suffered
    Was all for sinners’ gain;
Mine, mine was the transgression,
    But Thine the deadly pain.
Lo, here I fall, my Savior!
    ’Tis I deserve Thy place;
Look on me with Thy favor,
    And grant to me Thy grace.

4      My Shepherd, now receive me;
    My Guardian, own me Thine.
Great blessings Thou didst give me,
    O Source of gifts divine.
Thy lips have often fed me
    With words of truth and love;
Thy Spirit oft hath led me
    To heav’nly joys above.

5      What language shall I borrow
    To thank Thee, dearest Friend,
For this Thy dying sorrow,
    Thy pity without end?
O make me Thine forever!
    And should I fainting be,
Lord, let me never, never,
    Outlive my love for Thee.

6      My Savior, be Thou near me
    When death is at my door;
Then let Thy presence cheer me,
    Forsake me nevermore!
When soul and body languish,
    O leave me not alone,
But take away mine anguish
    By virtue of Thine own!

7      Be Thou my consolation,
    My shield, when I must die;
Remind me of Thy passion
    When my last hour draws nigh.
Mine eyes shall then behold Thee,
    Upon Thy cross shall dwell,
My heart by faith enfold Thee.
    Who dieth thus dies well.

Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia!

461 I Know That My Redeemer Lives

1      I know that my Redeemer lives;
What comfort this sweet sentence gives!
He lives, He lives, who once was dead;
He lives, my ever-living head.

2      He lives triumphant from the grave;
He lives eternally to save;
He lives all-glorious in the sky;
He lives exalted there on high.

3      He lives to bless me with His love;
He lives to plead for me above;
He lives my hungry soul to feed;
He lives to help in time of need.

4      He lives to grant me rich supply;
He lives to guide me with His eye;
He lives to comfort me when faint;
He lives to hear my soul’s complaint.

5      He lives to silence all my fears;
He lives to wipe away my tears;
He lives to calm my troubled heart;
He lives all blessings to impart.

6      He lives, my kind, wise, heav’nly friend;
He lives and loves me to the end;
He lives, and while He lives, I’ll sing;
He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King.

7      He lives and grants me daily breath;
He lives, and I shall conquer death;
He lives my mansion to prepare;
He lives to bring me safely there.

8      He lives, all glory to His name!
He lives, my Jesus, still the same;
Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives:
I know that my Redeemer lives!

493 A Hymn of Glory Let Us Sing

1      A hymn of glory let us sing!
New hymns throughout the world shall ring:

Christ, by a road before untrod,
Ascends unto the throne of God.
    Alleluia, alleluia!
    Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

2      The holy apostolic band
Upon the Mount of Olives stand.
    Alleluia, alleluia!
And with His faithful foll’wers see
Their Lord ascend in majesty.
    Alleluia, alleluia!
    Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

3      To them the shining angels cry,
“Why stand and gaze upon the sky?”

“This is the Savior,” thus they say;
“This is His glorious triumph day!”

    Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

633 At the Lamb’s High Feast We Sing

1      At the Lamb’s high feast we sing
Praise to our victorious King,
Who has washed us in the tide
Flowing from His piercèd side.
    Alleluia!

2      Praise we Him, whose love divine
Gives His sacred blood for wine,
Gives His body for the feast—
Christ the victim, Christ the priest.
    Alleluia!

3      Where the paschal blood is poured,
Death’s dread angel sheathes the sword;
Israel’s hosts triumphant go
Through the wave that drowns the foe.
    Alleluia!

4      Praise we Christ, whose blood was shed,
Paschal victim, paschal bread;
With sincerity and love
Eat we manna from above.
    Alleluia!

5      Mighty Victim from the sky,
Hell’s fierce pow’rs beneath You lie;
You have conquered in the fight,
You have brought us life and light.
    Alleluia!

6      Now no more can death appall,
Now no more the grave enthrall;
You have opened paradise,
And Your saints in You shall rise.
    Alleluia!

7      Easter triumph, Easter joy!
This alone can sin destroy;
From sin’s pow’r, Lord, set us free,
Newborn souls in You to be.
    Alleluia!

8      Father, who the crown shall give,
Savior, by whose death we live,
Spirit, guide through all our days:
Three in One, Your name we praise.
    Alleluia!

644 The Church’s One Foundation

1      The Church’s one foundation
    Is Jesus Christ, her Lord;
She is His new creation
    By water and the Word.
From heav’n He came and sought her
    To be His holy bride;
With His own blood He bought her,
    And for her life He died.

2      Elect from ev’ry nation,
    Yet one o’er all the earth;
Her charter of salvation:
    One Lord, one faith, one birth.
One holy name she blesses,
    Partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses
    With ev’ry grace endued.

3      Though with a scornful wonder
    The world sees her oppressed,
By schisms rent asunder,
    By heresies distressed,
Yet saints their watch are keeping;
    Their cry goes up, “How long?”
And soon the night of weeping
    Shall be the morn of song.

4      Through toil and tribulation
    And tumult of her war
She waits the consummation
    Of peace forevermore
Till with the vision glorious
    Her longing eyes are blest,
And the great Church victorious
    Shall be the Church at rest.

5      Yet she on earth has union
    With God, the Three in One,
And mystic sweet communion
    With those whose rest is won.
O blessèd heav’nly chorus!
    Lord, save us by Your grace
That we, like saints before us,
    May see You face to face.

887 Now the Light Has Gone Away

1      Now the light has gone away;
Father, listen while I pray,
Asking Thee to watch and keep
And to send me quiet sleep.

2      Jesus, Savior, wash away
All that has been wrong today;
Help me ev’ry day to be
Good and gentle, more like Thee.

3      Let my near and dear ones be
Always near and dear to Thee;
O bring me and all I love
To Thy happy home above.

4      Now my evening praise I give;
Thou didst die that I might live.
All my blessings come from Thee;
Oh, how good Thou art to me!

5      Thou, my best and kindest Friend,
Thou wilt love me to the end.
Let me love Thee more and more,
Always better than before.

909 Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation

1      Christ is made the sure foundation,
    Christ, our head and cornerstone,
Chosen of the Lord and precious,
    Binding all the Church in one;
Holy Zion’s help forever
    And our confidence alone.

2      To this temple, where we call You,
    Come, O Lord of hosts, and stay;
Come with all Your loving-kindness,
    Hear Your people as they pray;
And Your fullest benediction
    Shed within these walls today.

3      Grant, we pray, to all Your faithful
    All the gifts they ask to gain;
What they gain from You, forever
    With the blessèd to retain;
And hereafter in Your glory
    Evermore with You to reign.

4      Praise and honor to the Father,
    Praise and honor to the Son,
Praise and honor to the Spirit,
    Ever three and ever one:
One in might and one in glory
    While unending ages run!

A1:  I Need You Lord

I need you Lord:

    Er’ since creation’s earliest light.

I had need; you did provide

    through nature’s perfect means.

I need you Lord:

    Declared us good in Eden’s morn.

You made us good, yet still in need

    providing day by day

I need you Lord:

    In darkest shadows of death.

You spoke the word and it was done

    giving the life of your son

I need you Lord:

    Earthbound, though heaven awaits.

You know my needs and call them good

    I’ll trust in you to provide.

I need you Lord.

(by David B. Rueter, 2014)

A2:  Servants of Christ

CHORUS:

We are servants of Christ

living to serve Him every day.

Won’t you come with us and praise the Lord,

for he has blessed us in every way.

Long ago a baby’s birth

Caused excitement on the earth.

Many believed His claim,

thus their lives were not the same.

Come on now and praise the Lord!

CHORUS

This small child was the one—

The Lord’s beloved only son.

For our sake He lived His life—

For our sake He died in strive.

Come on now and praise the Lord!

CHORUS

Through His love we’re made clean,

And for this reason we now sing.

On the cross He took our sin,

Endless life for us to win.

Come on now and praise the Lord!

CHORUS

Now our lives should show thanks.

Sing his praise with angel ranks.

Humble lives for Him we’ll live,

Thankful hearts to Him we’ll give.

Come on now and praise the Lord!

CHORUS

(by David B. Rueter, 2014)

A3:  Lord My God I Wanna Praise Your Name

CHORUS

Lord my God I wanna praise your name

‘Cause you always are the same.

Love so great you sent your son

Who vict’ry over death has won.

When I think about that glorious resurrection day,

The day you came and found me and you washed my sins away,

It makes me want to sing a song directly from my heart,

For with the love you’ve given me you gave my life a start.

CHORUS

I completely trust in you, you are my greatest friend.

I know that you will be right there beside me to the end.

You are there to comfort me and to keep me safe from harm.

And when I fall you gather me into your loving arms.

CHORUS

Lord, I love you more each day, you take away my fear.

It makes my heart so joyful just to know that you are near.

Now I’ll go and tell the world about your wondrous grace

So they can come to know you and to see you face to face.

CHORUS

(by David Rueter, 1984)

A4:  The Lord Will Bless

CHORUS

Where ‘ere you go I pray the Lord will bless

You in every way.

When troubles come keep holding on

And he will see you through.

I haven’t known you for too long,

Nor do I know you very well.

But in that time you’ve been a friend and I want you to know…

CHORUS

The Lord has blessed me through you

In many different ways

Keep on growing in the Lord

And remember what I say…

CHORUS

Your faith is growing every day

That’s the way it should

Whatever happens don’t give up

Even when times are rough…

CHORUS

(by David Rueter, 1987)

A5:  Way to Go

Peter was a faithful man.

And when the Lord asked of Him,

“Who do you say that I am?”,

Peter looked at Him and grinned.

CHORUS

Sing ye Praise the Lord.

Let all the people know.

You’re the Way, the Truth, the Life forever…

You’re the way to go!

The robber was an evil hoss,

Now in a tough situation,

But while hanging on the cross

He gave Christ this indication…

CHORUS

Saul thought that he was right,

His business was persecution.

He lost his sight but he saw the light.,

Now he gives this proclamation…

CHORUS

Thomas was a doubter,

A master of speculation.

He felt the hands and he felt the side,

Fell on his knees in adoration…

CHORUS

(by Jon Jordening, 1986)

A6:  Lord’s Prayer (responsive)

Our Father

    Our Father

Who art in heaven

    Who art in heaven

Hallowed be thy name

    Hallowed be thy name

Thy kingdom come

    Thy kingdom come

Thy will be done

    Thy will be done

On earth

As in heaven

    As in heaven

And give us this day

    Give us this day

Our daily bread

    Our daily bread

And forgive our sins

    And forgive our sins

As we forgive others

    As we forgive others

And lead us not

    And lead us not

Into temptation

    Into temptation

But deliver us

    But deliver us

From evil

    From evil

For thine

    For thine

Is the kingdom

    Is the kingdom

And the power

    and the power

(unison)

And the glory, forever, and ever, and ever, Amen.

Our Father

    Our Father

Who art in heaven

    Who art in heaven

Hallowed be thy name
