“..Each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband” -1 Corinthians 7:2b

On Marriage and family life

The book study reviews a series of homilies given by St. John Chrysostom in the fourth century. They address practical problems arising for Christian life in a pagan society at that time. Among the recurrent themes of his preaching were the proper use of wealth, the correct attitude to popular entertainments, and the requirements of family life. Marriage is presented as a sign of God's kingdom that begins to restore the unity of mankind which has been broken up by sin. Marriage is both a great mystery in itself and represents a greater mystery, the unity of redeemed mankind in Christ.
