For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, lest any man should boast. - Ephesians 2:8-9
Augsburg Confession
The Augsburg Confession is the primary confession of faith of the Lutheran Church. It was presented by theologians and German princes to Emperor Charles V at the Diet of Augsburg in 1530. It sets forth what Lutherans believe, teach, and confess, focusing on key doctrines such as justification by faith, the authority of Scripture, the sacraments, and the proper role of the Church. It defends Lutheran beliefs and shows their continuity with the historic Christian faith. The Formula of Concord, written later (1577), reaffirms the Augsburg Confession in response to theological disputes among Lutherans.
